Tapas is one of my favourite foods in the world: I love ordering many little dishes, drinking some wine and chatting away while nibbling on Spanish food. I've been to The Port House Pintxo many times over the last few years, I like it because it feels like a real tapas place, always buzzing and with great decor.
On the main floor the long bar is lit in blue and looks cool. They added partitions between the tables in the dining space making your dinner experience a little more intimate. The walls are also lined with shelves filled with bottles of wine which emphasises the 'wine bar' feel of the place.
The choice of tapas is wide: appetisers, salads, cured meat, cheese, pintos, meat, potato dishes, vegetarian dishes and seafood. Everything is reasonably priced with the most expensive items on the menu being the cheese platter and the Spanish cured meat platter which both are under €15.
This tapas bar is a great spot for a group of friends but also quite romantic for couples. They have a covered terrace at the back for smokers or al fresco diners. The service has always been friendly, efficient and prompt over the years despite the restaurant being in a touristy part of Dublin. Before I forget, make sure to visit their bathroom which is quite original and surprising. The sister restaurant on South William street is just as lovely and food is equally good if you're looking a tapas place in a trendier area. Salud!
