Herbert Park Food Market

I've been eating quite a few doughnuts lately but to be honest nothing that I wanted to write about here. The only ones I was yet to try where the ones from the Revolution Bakery, who supply a few shops and cafes on the south side of Dublin (Avoca, Emer's Kitchen, Thru the Green...). They also have a vintage van that parks at a few food markets and I knew they were at Herbert Park last Sunday so Mr. FFID and I went for a stroll out to Ballsbridge.

I never knew there was a food market in Herbert Park, it's called the complete food market and is on every Sunday from 11am to 4pm. It's very small but the atmosphere is lovely and the setting perfect as you have lots of space to sit on the grass or for families to spend the afternoon in the park.

There were a few stalls of hot foods ranging from Korean cuisine to Italian pasta, Middle Eastern fare to African dishes.

I didn't want anything savoury but Mr. FFID ordered a grilled cheese sandwich from the Nice N Cheesy stall.

It was a rather buttery (not a complaint) grilled Wicklow cheddar, Coolea and onion mix cheese sandwich. They had a choice of 4 different fillings all served on delicious sourdough bread starting at €6.

Now we were there mainly for the doughnuts so the next stop was Revolution Bakery's van. To be honest I wanted to order all of them, they had a great selection of flavours: Boston cream, coffee cream, vanilla custard and much more.

It was a no brainer for Mr. FFID who went for the bacon and maple doughnut, an indulgent combination of sweet and savoury with lots of little pieces of bacon on top.

I couldn't resist the lemon meringue pie doughnut and was absolutely delighted with my choice.

Covered with soft meringue on top, it was an enormous amount of lemon creme encased in a soft and airy dough. By far the best doughnut I've tasted in Dublin! They're priced at €3 each.

I also saw the stall from LUXE gelato and quite frankly couldn't say no to the temptation of delicious handmade gelato.

You'll find them every Saturday at Temple Bar Food Market but they also go to Herbert Park. Their selection of flavours change all the time but because we had doughnuts we only shared one scoop between us, of scrumptious pistachio gelato. The couple who own the stall are super friendly, you have to pay them a visit!

So we had a lovely Sunday stroll at the market and Revolution Bakery and LUXE gelato are two reasons why you should visit as soon as you can!

(I'd recommend to check the vendors' social media pages to know which markets you can find them at).
